This portrait/sculpture of the prize winning ballerina Sylvie Guillem captures her in a magnificent posture. Sylvie was born in Paris and studied at the Paris Opera Ballet School. She has won numerous prizes, including the Varna Competition, Carpeaux Prize, Prix Andersen, Commandeur des Arts et des Lettres, Grand Prix National de la Danse, Pavlova Prize, the Benois prize in Moscow, Légion d'Honneur. She became an étoile of the Paris Opera Ballet in 1984 after her first performance of Swan Lake. She joined the British Royal Ballet as Principal Guest Artist in 1989.
